ok so...im new to black rifles and am currently looking for my first one. I have shot a AR-15 before and loved it but for a rifle i would really like to have something that can be built/modified but is still NON-restricted, which i know rules out the AR-15. so...what would you guys recommend? I was looking at the cz858 and also the CSA VZ58 sporter...Im not a HUGE fan of the way they look right out of the box, but after a few mods they look pretty slick and i from what i have read they are pretty dependable. \

so if your budget was $1k max for the basic platform what would you put your money on?

CZ-858 no question...rifle + Neit/NEA bolt release is a fast gun.

Add in NEA handguard + optic and you have a serious carbine.

Put on an AR stock if you like - I did - and you have more manageable recoil impulse and adjustable length of pull.

I ran a rifle in that basic configuration in a Hackathorn rifle class...performed very well. The recoil will slow you down and the accuracy does not quite keep up with ARs but it's effective and the ammo is cheap.

There is nothing else in this country that compares in terms of "black" rifle bang-for-buck. It's the Canadian AK (and by this I mean that just a few years ago in the US you could get an AK for $500 that would be as reliable as a $1500 AR...and by $1500 AR I mean a Colt 6920 during the Obama panic).

You want this. Kel Tec SU-16. 10rd mags, lightweight and cheap ammo.....and Non Res.

I'm making the same decision myself and Im looking seriously at the SU 16. Ive been doing my research and it seems like for the money it cant be beat. Throw in the Non-res and 10 rd mags and it seems like a no brainer to me. You can get the gun, the AR stock, add a new forend and still be less than half the price of an XCR, hell you can add a decent optic to it and be about half the price of the XCR.
