There's a IPSC fun match up in Prince Albert the first weekend in August and I plan on attending. From what I understand its to get some people into the sport and see what kind of interest there is in Saskatchewan.

I'm starting bare bones here and need some advice. Here's what I already know. Put the sights on target, pull trigger, be safe.:D

My friend has a 1911 or a glock that I can borrow and some mags and holster. I'm not to worried about gear, but what are some of the no-nos or frowned about things to keep in mind? What are the basics that I need to know?

Thanks in advance.

My initial response is to tell to take the Black Badge course. But this may be difficult in certain regions. I'm not sure of the format of this shoot.

My advice:

Take your time. Don't rush. Forget about being timed. Speed will come with experience.

Be aware of muzzle direction at all times. Especially when moving.

Watch how other experienced shooters do things. Ask them questions.

Have fun & make plans to take the Black Badge course.

Safety is so important,

I tried doing a search for Sask but nothing came up. Do you know where Ron is from? Thanks for the link but nothing about black badge. I emailed the contact.

Anything else I should know?

Where are you in Saskatchewan?, The IPSC guys shoot every Wednesday night in Saskatoon at the Wildlife Federation range. A real low key but safety first, fun night of shooting. The guys are extremely helpful for the new shooter.

We can only grow any shooting sport by welcoming the new and interested people. It would be an excellent way to view the sport.

The locals run a few black badge courses every year. PM me for the guys name and email if you want.

For your first match you need a reliable gun, holster, 4 mags, 200 rounds or so, eyes and ears of course.

IPSC is a real challenge to shoot even more so to shoot well and quickly.

Maybe see you in PA

I might go check out the event just to see what it's about. I'm curious about the black badge course as it pertains to the ranges here. AFAIK no holsters allowed for normal shooting......which is stupid. I haven't had a holster on since being in S'toon.:(

I'm in Moose Jaw so Saskatoon on a Wednesday is out of the question but Regina is an option that I would like to explore.

Anyone from this area that does IPSC that I might be able to tag along with for an event and just watch?

Keep in mind that the Nationals are in Halifax in two weeks...so Ron and a bunch of the active members from Sask will be on the road soon.

I have Ron's email at work (and I'll see him at the NEC meeting in Halifax) so I'll let him know that BB course info is missing from the site.

Cheers
Craig
