New to Lever Actions, have a newbie question

I just purchased my first lever action. 1886 winchester chiappa. The question I have is when the hammers is back the inertia pin I think its called moves back and forth. Is it supposed to? I have a pic of what Im talking about , with a red arrow pointing to it.

That is the firing pin. On some guns, they are held rearward with a spring. On yours, no spring, it's free floating.
