Well, I made to move to (back again) to rifles, this time with a desire to get into long range shooting. Other then military experience, I have no knowledge about competitions, let alone what is expected. I have bought 2 rifles for this task, a SL8 scoped with a fixed power 10x40 mildot and a DPMS 308 AR-10 scoped with a Elcan 7.62. So a couple questions, is these the right type of equipment for a normal meet? Where should I start to get involved? Anyone in the hamilton region willing to explain the lay of the land for me?

Thanks

Hmm, looks like F- Class might be for me. I would like to get into

You are already on the road! No one learns without asking.

Expect to be told your gear isn't this or that, and you have to do this or that, and for chrissakes ... (insert admonishment here) ... The shooting game is the worst for old fashioned thinking. It is regrettably part of the sport.

(One seasoned Bisley shooter told me about two wrinkly old Brits whose 'assignment' was to hassle visiting teams. He counterattacked by detailing an off-shift shooter to aggressively harangue them for their silly hats, bad teeth, rudeness, etc.)

Expect to shoot poorly under match conditions. You have to take you place on the line when your relay is called. The competitor with the best score will win. Make notes on the things you are doing. Evolution not revolution when deciding on changes.

In the words of an old pilot, there is no substitute for air under your seat - so get as much trigger time and shoot as many matches as you can afford.
