I picked up a cheap Cooey 64 at a local gun show. The reason it was cheap is because it was really dirty. The action would barely move. I have cleaned it with brake cleaner and it is cycling fairly good (thanks to reading numerous post about these rifles on gun nutz). The question I have is regarding the clip. It came with the plastic Cooey clip. I read that Savage 64 clips work in these rifles. Do I have to change any parts to get this clip to work in my rifle? Is it a direct fit?

The real reason it was so cheap, is because the plastic clips are no longer available. haven't been for many years. the seller knew this and it would cost him money to get a replacement magwell and metal mag for updating it. About $40-50. the parts from Savage go right into place but you will have to get the new u-clip also. The 2
screws holding the L- bracket on also will hold the magwell in place. sometimes "cheap" means "sucker " unfortunately. If you run into problems, pm me and I will send pics if necessary to help you out. I have 6 of these beauties ( only one is the plastic mag version...oldest model) and do all my own work on them.

I was wondering what parts I need to convert to a savage clip? I have the Cooey clip and it works fine. I wanted to have extras. And I don't think buying a gun for under $100 that shoots well after 10 minutes of cleaning makes me a "sucker".

If it is the plastic one, what do you do when it quits. It is obsolete. The parts you need is a metal mag well, metal magazine and u-clip that holds the barrel in place. You can buy these parts direct from Savage Arms. The Savage mag and metal Cooey mag are interchangeable. My plastic mag Cooey works good too..it is now retired. I paid $65 for mine c/w scope. The plastic mags are few and far between, they can be got but can be very expensive. A lot of guys know what these mags are worth and they get snapped up pretty quick.

I was not inferring that you were a sucker...but rather that the unknowing like the cheaper prices and sellers want to rid themselves of a problem. Buying the parts you will need to convert it could up your purchase price to over $150, if you wish to go that route. No offense meant..
