Recently got back my rechambered Savage with Lilja .223 bbl. Thanks to guntech aka Dennis Sorrensen for fixing the original "gunsmiths" pizz poor chamber job. Results are excellent with groups as tight as .080 at 100 yards. Shooting in the heat shimmer from a wood stove heated shack was difficult but I squeaked a few groups in the .1's with the best being just under at .08 No time for load development and only shooting 3 shot groups so not a true test of accuracy but definately shows some promise

Here are the specs

savage single shot SS action
SSS trigger
Lilja 8 twist .223 bbl
Robertson Stock
Mueller Erradicator Scope 25X
Burris Sig Z rings
10 MOA mount

With that 8 twist you should try some 69g SMKs or 70g berger VLDs.

Looks like a great shooter, I love the stock. Hows the clarity on that scope. I've read a lot of rave reviews it seems about Mueller, for the money anyways.

I have some 80 grain bergers I will be trying out on the next outing. I'm a big fan of mueller scopes. Clarity is great and stays nice and bright. Holds zero and passes box test. Only ever had it on ligth recoiling guns so can't say it would take a pounding and still hold but it works very well on my .223

JV, take 5 - 5rd group average. That'll give you an indication of what your rifle will do. Just remember to stop when you feel yourself loosing concentration or the 5th rd jitters :)

At the rate you are going, I bet you average in the high 1's or low 2's.

Nice to see another bughole shooting Savage.

I would expect about that as well. The problem I am having is the weather. We are shooting from a heated shack so all the warm air going out my window makes a major mirage. Once it warms up around these parts I'll give her a good go....Thanks

I don't really like Savages, but that is a nice looking rifle!
Shoots nice too!

Did Dennis use the 223 Wilde reamer?

Not sure what reamer, the wilde reamer is a longer throat??
Battery operated fan. Blow the mirage away.

Jerry

Good tip, not sure if this would work as the mirage is not coming form the bbl, it is all the hot air inside the heated shack blowing
out through the window.

How much for a Robertson stock like that?

Not sure the stock was on the gun already

Nice rig! What were your reasons for going with .223? I just got a Savage VLP in .223 that I have yet to shoot. I am in a small city with limited ammo and I don't reload yet so went with .223. I was thinking about re-barreling it some day but not sure about caliber. Maybe .243 for wind bucking.
