I was haunting the tradex site looking for a winter project gun and maybe a gun to lend my nephew for hunting when a FEG 500 ES sxs with ejectors caught my eye and after looking at the description I bought it. It arrived quickly (it was shipped the next day) and as per usual was in better condition than described though she was a dirty girl. It has a double lock up I've not seen before though I understand it is not uncommon.

The safety has two operations one locks the triggers and the other the hammers , a fork at B controls a pin C that locks the hammer even if the sear is tripped. The bar A hooked to to the safety slide also resets the safety when the top lever is moved. There is to me at least a mystery screw D that I suspect may have something to do with the ejector timing, anyone know?

I'm going to strip the stock and repair a small crack from having the tang contact the stock ( which I have already addressed. Should be a fun project after hunting season.

Got it back together after cleaning out the Hungarian straw and bugs :) .Its smoother now and ejects with authority, I might take it for a walk next week.

The double lugs are common on the FEG line of sxs's. The gun has no top bolting system so two lugs make up for that( in reality it can be argued that only one locking device is adequate). I have a FEG Continental and they are well made durable guns. The ejectors can be removed if not needed by taking the unit out of the fore end. Nice option to have.

I do believe that is the theory. It would be a simple way to change the spring. I would advise against unscrewing it. It is a heavy coil spring and greatly compressed. It is likely not to fly far but would need a special jig to compress it to re install.

Thanks for the information, I like to know whats what in my guns even if I'm not going to dismantle them. I had to dig pretty deep in this one to get the gunk out of the action and for end metal as there were literally bits of straw and bugs in it , I suspect it was carried around on a tractor in its previous life.

I have a FEG airgun that is still running from the early 60's with a new mainspring 600fps/.177 Killed a pile of pests and game with it.

The gun seems well built if a little crude here and there, it has a surprisingly small action compared to my Parker. I hope to give it a go next week if it ever stops raining/snowing.
