Hey everyone, just got my first firearm, what appears to be a Lee Enfield No1 Mk 3. It has been sporterized, and is missing its mag. I'm plannin to un-sporterize her, and am curious if any other people out there are doing this... If you have parts, pm me!

Check this site out if you need parts! Just ordered some No 4 Mk1* parts to un-sporterize (Militarize or Milsurpize) it!

You have a "dispersal rifle"
These were made up of spare parts and bits from otherwise condemmed or cannabilized rifles, although some componentslike the beech furniture were new.
The action markings of these dispersal rifles are different in they have no factory name. the year and rifle designation markings were often made with individual stamps which do not align properly.

It is considered that these rifles were assembled in Birmingham and that some of the BSA Small Heath machinery was used.

Oh, by the way, check out www.skennerton.com. His small arms identification series (S.A.I.S) is inexpensive and has exploded parts diagrams.
www.ssporters.com also is good for parts.
Make sure you get EVERYTHING you need in one go, as dealers will still charge the SAME shipping and handling for a box of bits OR just a couple of screws!

Thanks for all the advice. I guess I've learned what I was told, you get what you pay for. That being said, now I have a rifle I can play with and not worry about decreasing it's value. I've got a few ideas to make her look a bit better without defacing the milsurp history, if they come though, I'll post pics.

Hey, I just un-sporterized my no 4 mk 1. Relatively easy, and cost around $120 for parts from e-gunparts.com. Let me know if you need a hand, I can give you a list of the part numbers you will need. I'll also post a picture soon.

Congratulations bud.
My first rifle looked very similar to yours.
Its a Canadian tradition to have a lee enfield as your first rifle.

Welcome to the group

Richard

Is it still considered worth restoring if it has been drilled and tapped?
The first pic you can see two drill holes in just before the reciever meets the barrel, in the second there is one hole on the bridge that spans the gap over the bolt.

Hey, don't quote me on this, but I do believe those are ok. I think it's the same thing as 'compensated' on a handgun. Just a place to relieve pressure. My Enfiled has a hole on the left side of the receiver just parallel to where you have the 2 holes.

Here she is after the 'un-spoterizing'. Silly me, I forgot to order a screw for the front band, and a sling swivel for the back. I assumed the one on the sporterized stock was the same, but it was a home made setup. Good luck with yours.

Generally no
It is not financially worth your time to refurbish a drilled and tappen milsurp. Regardless you will not get your investment back if you ever decided to try and sell her.

However if you want to restore her then be prepared to pay another $200 in parts. You may find it easier to buy a full wod matching milsurp and use this as your sporter / hunting rifle.

My experience anyways.

If you are going to use that rifle for a hunting rig it looks like it is drilled and tapped for a Weaver T-10 scope mount . You will need the Weaver tip off rings as well. Looks like my first enfeild as well.
