OP, nice looking rifle; is that a hint of Tiger stripe pattern in the wood? I like the M/N platform looks; I've heard it slagged upon, but I find it somewhat graceful.
In my advancing years though, I must be becoming trollish.
But I've never seen the M/N 30/91 as a big recoil gun; neither do my daughters, lol.
Although in all fairness to you they mostly shoot the M39; the recoil pad is for them. I shoot the M44 bareback; mano-e-carbino.
Got it so hot this day the cosmo started to ooze out of the forestock, that spam can was opened at the start of the session. That's about 140 rds give or take a couple, my daughter maybe shot 30-40 rd through the M39. I accounted for the rest through the carbine.
A couple of freckles on the front of my shoulder the next morning but definitely no bruise.

And the bayonet does make it shoot better, I was curious about this. The M44 shoots about 2 ft right of POA at 300 paces with the bayo folded.
But if you shoot from a bench you will get bruised; I did all my shooting this day either standing or seated marine style with a tight sling wrap and
tight into the shoulder hold.
You are not
going under a sweater for a small squeeze here, no delicate hold required... grab onto that rifle and hold on tight! That's what I've found works good for me anyhow
