there you go. Let me know what you guys think. any known problems with this gun etc? or are they good to go? local store told me they wouldnt deal with anything but russian models?

If you're still having doubts, try this basic step just to reassure yourself:

Bolt locked open, hold rifle vertical with the muzzle down & drop a live round in there (don't use a fired one cause the case will have expanded, unless you've got a FL sized one). The base of the case should be seated where you would expect the extractor to sit.

Because the stamp you are reporting is actually SHORTER, if it wasn't for the M43 then your cartridge would be sticking out of the chamber, or not try to chamber at all, especially with the taper on this cartridge.

Just a suggestion in case you are really concerned about it. :)

Make sure you drop out the live round after that check....!!!

Personally though...I am also POSITIVE the SKS has only ever been chambered in the 7.62 x 39 mm cartridge - I can understand your concern though "better safe than sorry"

just took it apart and took a picture of the 7.62 number again with the flash on and what do you know you can see the 3 look like a 9.

with a bullet inserted it slides in leaving the ring portion exposed on top.

so with that out of the way what do you guys think of the norinco version compared to a russian version ?

just as reliable ?

cheers

Yup, the barrel might be pinned (instead of threaded) and the metal is stamped instead of milled, but I've never heard of any issues with them. I have an all matching, unissued ChiCom SKS and it has never given me any problems whatsoever.

completely.

personally, I think the russian version gets all the love because the design is russian, therefore it's cooler if the gun is russian also.
In practical terms, the chinese version, regardless of whether or not it's a copy, is just as practical, just as rough 'n tough, and just as reliable.

Choosing an SKS: It's not like beta vs vhs. with the sks you can pick either russian or chinese and feel confident that you made the right choice.
