Hello fellow CGN'ers, just a quick post for you today. I just picked this up last week at a local shop, its a Herbert Schmidt model 21, .22cal revolver. Nothing much to look at, really well used, but i think it has some character, i picked it up for next to nothing. Im going to use it to teach my 6 year old son how to shoot a handgun, he really enjoys shooting my .22 marlin rifle. Everytime i put my pistol bag together to go to the range, he says he wants to shoot the handguns with me, put i tell him the .45's and the 9mm are to much for him to handle right now. Im hoping this will do the trick, and get him involved in a great sport.

One more thing, when i got this thing home and was getting ready to take it apart to clean it, i noticed a rattling in the handle, when i took the grips off i found two live rounds of .22mag. Strange i know, they obviously dont fit in this gun, but im thinking this may have been originally sold with both .22 and .22magnum cylinders, does anyone know if this is correct?

I have one to but with ivory grips. Inherited from my Dad. He bought it back in the early seventies for, get this, $ 48. Still looks like new and shoots well. Lots of fun. Brings back alot of memories back on the ranch when I was a kid. Nothing like the smell of cordite in the morning!

I have one of these, got it from my dad. The rifling is so worn out that at 15 yds bullets are hitting the target sideways. I also had to re-cut the trigger sear cause it was worn right off. They are pretty fun but mine mostly sits around in the safe now.

I realize this post is faily old and likely no one looks at it anymore however I just bought one of these a few months back. not my first handgun but it is my first revolver and i absolutely love it. Mine is the model 21s so the barrell is stamped for 22 mag but it only came with one cylinder (22 LR). From what i could find the 21s came with both cylinders and the 21 only came with the 22LR so chances are that yours is ment for 22 LR. However after looking closer at your pictures and at my gun your cylinder has beveling for the rim of the bullet where mine (22LR cylinder) does not. It is entirely possible that the previous owner got his hands on a mag cylinder and that is what came with your gun... I am no expert so this could be entirely wrong but still a great little gun with 22LR and 22 shorts!

When it was new it came with both cylinders, .22lr and .22 mag, however when I purchased it there was only the .22lr. When I removed the grips to refinish them I found two .22mag live rounds sandwiched in between them, I did a little research and found that this gun originally came with both cylinders. Neat little gun and fun to shoot. I recently sold it on the EE.

So... did your son get to shoot it? How did he like it? Are you replacing it with another one? Like to know.

He really likes shooting it, lately he seems to be more interested in the semis so I'm replacing it with a buckmark. Figured I'd let somebody else enjoy it.
