I recently aquired a savage .17 hmr after missing the one i should have never sold.

This one has a very frustrating problem, which im looking for help on.

Problem: inserting a Magazine (if not done JUST perfectly) will almost always blow (almost always) 3 rounds out the ejection port, sometimes 4 or all 5 rounds..... If i inster with the bolt closed, as soon as i open it to chamber a round boom, .17hmr ammo goes flying....

TO ME, it appears the ejector is not in the correct position, anyone ever heard of this? according to what i can see and this pic below, it appears the rounds are being pushed my the ejector and caused to eject.

After i took this photo i tried gently bumping the mag on the bottom just to see if they would pop out again and presto.... flying rounds.....

HOPEFULLY someone can cure this frustrating problem for me.

IMO, it must be that the lips of the mag have been bent open. My hmr mags are TIGHT at the back, there is no way a round could come out vertically. You HAVE to push them forward. Id assume if yours can pop out the top, the lips on the top of the mag must be open too much.

Pavement surfer should have it nailed. I just had the same problem again with one of my savages today in .22. Just take a pair of pliers, I prefer needle nose, and squeese the rear lips on the top of the mag together. Just try a little at a time as it usually doesn't take much.

Hope this helps.

This is the only thing I dont like about the savage rifles is the mags....pavementsurfer is correct on the fix.
I mark each of my mags on the bottom with a dab or two of white paint to keep track of which ones are acting up .
Another issue is the bayonet tab the mag slides onto sometimes needs to be bent forward with pliers a tiny bit to get the feed angle correct
My 22WMR had that issue and the rounds were getting jammed on the bottom of the chamber .
Its a real easy fix though.

TEN THOUSAND thanks guys! took me thirty seconds and it was solved! the varmints are safe no more! I WILL be prepared now!

On another note where is the cheapest place to buy more 5 round mags.... 10 rounds i notice u use more ammo and you dont focus as much on placing the shots properly...
