New to Milsurp with 2 quick questions about wartime Long Lee's?

I'm still reading a ton so I'll get right to the point; Why are some of these rifles equipped with smooth upper hand guard wood, and some are ribbed?. And secondly what would be the correct colour and markings for a CAF No.4 MK1 Longbranch sling? I want to make sure I'm looking for the correct sling for this '43 LB.

The standard webbing sling was khaki coloured and Canadian made with the Canadian C broad arrow die mark. Navy was blancoed white
as with all webbing on occasion. Air force was blue died. Some were painted black for special use. The serrated rear hand guard on the No. 4 service rifle started 1941 and spilled over to some in 1942. Later 42 and for 43, 44, and 45 it was a smooth hand guard with the exceptions of 44 and 45 snipers and all No.7 .22 In. rifles. So to pinpoint your question your 1943 LB rifle is correct with a Canadian made khaki sling and
smooth handguard. JOHN

and of course Long Lee is the wrong term for a Long Branch No.4, the Long Lee was in service prior to the SMLE. They did see some service at the beginning of WW1 but certainly not in WW2

There were potentially some forced into Home Guard use after Dunkirk. I believe I saw a picture of one being carried by a Boer War vet on 'patrol' in the North East. There were some odd things being done in the weeks after Dunkirk.

See? I'm learning more all the time! I thought Long Lee was shorthand for Longbranch Lee Enfield's. My mistake.

I've seen postwar overhauls with the ribbed h/g, probably just what they had in the bins at the time.
