Question : I am trying to just neck size with a full length sizer die , what I
need to know is how far down the neck does the die travel ?
Right now it is going down about an 1/8th of an inch then it is punching the primer out, now do I adjust this so that the die travels farther down the neck and then punches the primer out ?
I am looking in to a neck sizer only die from Lee but until then. Oh ya I am using a competition die from RCBS in a 22-250.
appreciate any help with this.
Thanks

Paint the neck of a peice of brass with a marker. You can then see how far down the neck the die travels with a full stroke. Then adjust til your heart's content.......

If the competition dies are anything like the regular dies then the Decapper pin is adjustable and can be set to decap at almost any point in the process.

When I set my RCBS .223 die up for neck size only I started by backing the die out 2 full turns from touching the shell holder then ran a case through and checked the neck to see how far down it was sizing, then I adjusted the die down a little at a time and tried a new case everytime until I had the desired length of neck sizing then ran all the cases through again to the final depth.

It is very easy to see how far down the neck the die is sizing, I was running mine down to just above where the shoulder starts.

Hope that helps.

I finally broke down and bought a Lee Collet Neck Size Die :D
