long time owning rifles and shotguns and so on but wanted to try something new
got a sam 1911 a while back
and well i have never been shooting at an indoor range and never fired a pistol.
just looking for some information about how to learn with pistols and maybe some indoor range etiquette
just some info would be great or if some one could show me the ropes that would be absolutely fantastic!

Rule number one, it's short, easy to handle, and easy to turn. Keep it pointed down range.
Find someone that has some experience at the club where you intend to shoot, let them teach you the rules, safe area, range commands, and safety requirements for the club.
Safe shooting.

Go to the Shooting Edge in Calgary and talk to the staff there. They will rent different pistols or revolvers and give you range instruction as well. A great way to try different firearms and see what you enjoy shooting

If you're interested contact the IPSC AB South Central Zone director. Dean's info can be found on www.ipscalberta.com He can put you in touch with Konstantine (if you're reading this Sorry buddy! After all these years I still can't spell your name!) or Dean may know about the IPSC league night they have in Calgary at The Shooting Edge. I believe you need a black badge to shoot their league, but I'm not sure.

At the very least go watch them shoot, trust me IPSC is WAAAAY more fun that just standing around and shooting a static target. Ask lots of questions and the guys will always be happy to answer them.

To give you an idea here's a video of mine from an IPSC match at The Shooting Edge from last year.

If you have any other questions feel free to contact me as well. I'm the South Zone Director, so if you can't get a hold of Dean (SCZD) then I can try to help you out as well. Since you're in Calgary Dean would be your best bet though.

Definitely join the Edge and let me know when you're going - maybe we can meet up and chat about shooting and IPSC (it really is a ton of fun)

If you are into IPSC / combat style - then Shooting Egde and Calgary shooting centre (in that order I think) If you are interested in ISSF /Olympic / NRA Bullseye shooting try the http://crpc.ca The good news is that Calgary caters for all tastes!
