Hi Roger and Welcome

I was using air rifles for many years and only recently turned to powder firearms, started of with asi magnum air rifle in .22, and webley tempest air pistol.

Pretty hard to beat the CZ line of rifles, esp .22s, the Rem. 700 is still the benchmark for accurate cf rifles and they makes alot of models of it, one for everyone. Eventually you will want a shotgun, and Beretta and Browning make good semis and o/u models. I'd bide my time if I were you, go to shooting clubs/ranges and see what the folks are using, alot of times they would let you try it. Get a better idea of what you want before you shell out alot of money!

great idea :D one thing to consider on the sks regaurding " rifle i dont have to worry to much about"if you are shooting mil surp ammo (which you would be crazy not to) it is corrosive so total break down and a good cleaning is mandatory ...that being said they are a blast and everyone should own two

I know a bunch of guys at the local club ,I will be going with one of them this sunday to do some shooting and join.why I wanted a 22LR to start is because at this club I can shoot no larger than a .22 rifle from the inclosed and heated pistol range, this way I can shoot all winter in comfort.why I am leaning towards the weatherby is that I love to target shoot and it comes with that world class Anschutz barrell and action and the wood work is out of this world ,also the ammo is cheap for a .22 this will allow me to fire endless amounts of ammo for practice at a considerable savings over the larger caliber equivalant. I think what I realy like about the look of this gun is remembering back to when I was a kid in the late 60s and seeing my dad with one just like it on the farm,as far as the SKS goes my buddy has one and it's so mutch fun it's almost freaky LOL.
I see the weatherby is also sold in a .17HMR and it's said to be even more accurate than the .22 the velocity is around 2600fps on the .17HMR and 1200fps on the .22 . anyone using this caliber,is it harder to get or a lot more expensive ?? thanks again for your replies all are helpful .cheers Roger
