Is there a big differance between the savage 10pc and the savage 10fcp?
Other than the 4 inches in length and the fluted barrel.

Is one perhaps slightly more accurate because of the 4 inches? Is the Savage muzzle break any good and is the fluting really worth anything?

I know its a noob question but this is why I ask you guys and seek the wisdom of others.

Thanks.

Accuracy is not the result of barrel length, rather it is the result of barrel quality and quality of installation/action type. All things being equal, the longer barrel should result in higher muzzle velocity. I would expect an increase of maybe 25-40 fps per extra inch of barrel length.

Fluting has very little to do with accuracy. Some claim that it 'stiffens' a barrel, a claim that I don't strongly buy in to. Fluting does increase surface area so it should stand to reason that it might assist somewhat with cooling of the barrel. For me, I like the looks of a nice fluting job.

Barrel fluting has everything to do with keeping the barrel cool, it does increase surface area, which allows the barrel to cool down quicker between shots than with out it. Heat kills accuracy! Longer barrel does add to velocity, and adds weight to the over all rifle, helps reduce recoil. The muzzle break reduces recoil by 40 to 60%. Reducing recoil is important for quick follow up shots, keeps muzzle from "jumping up". I have had my Savage 10 fcp-k for 5 months now, and love it! The rifle is capable of making good shooters, great shooters, at longer ranges; with that being said, as long as you have good shooting habits! If your addicted to accuracy, and the challenges of shooting long ranges, then the savage 10 fcp-k is a great gun! Mine always turns heads at the range, and when Im shooting 3 inch groups at 300 yards....they really like the rifle!

I also have have a savage FCP in 308, love it !!! The muzzel break lets me shoot all day without having any shoulder issues, even my 15 year old daughter can shoot 15- 20 rounds without a complaint !!!
