Hello all,

Well I havent shot a rifle in about 13 years and when I did hunt with my old man it was with iron sites. Now I am looking to start again and I would like to use a scope but I have NEVER used one or know how to persay.

Now everyone says spend ATLEAST half to more than the cost of the rifle for a scope. So me having no clue on scopes, is there such a thing as going to advanced?

From my readings in the Optics side, I keep seeing the 3x9x40 3200 elite being the scope choice for mild financed people (me lol) but I really like the Falcon scopes and If I can work my money out to be ble to get one I will but im stuck wondering if this scope is going to be to much for me to learn on or handle

So hopefully September I will be able to get myself a new rifle (1st) and a scope. For bases and rings I'm still lost.

Answers to questions you might ask.

Rifle I might get: Savage 116/16 FCSS (looking for reviews) or Savage 111/11 FCNS unless otherwise discourage

Calibre: 30-06 or .308 old, "boring" (some may say) but reliable

Use: Hunting (Deer, Moose, Bear anything that taste good) and Range

Thank you for any help

Steve

It would be hard to go wrong with the 3x9 3200 for a general scope. If the distance in the area that you hunt are short(ish), you might also want to consider a 2x7 power scope. 7x is usually more than enough magnification for most hunting, and sometimes the wide field of view at 2x is very useful.

Thanks for the replies. As for the distance part goes, I have no idea yet as I dont know where I will be hunting but if I can learn to shoot long distances at ranges the scope will need to handle that too.

I have a Savage 16FSS It's the best shooting gun I have ever owned. They are tack drivers. I have a 3x9x40 3200 on it and with shooting win Accubonds 1/2 groupings at 100 yards are the norm. The only thing wrong with my set up is the stock...which I am getting a new thumbhole laminate from Boyds!

Savage ....Tikka...Sako you can't go wrong if you want accuracy
