Hi everyone, i got my gun for Christmas, bought a scope, a new pink camo bag....some targets.....now what do i do?

I have been shooting at the Armstrong range, its nice in the winter no one is there but i think i was having trouble with my scope yesterday, it is the first time i used this new one and because i have glasses its a little annoying!!

Anyhow, do i just keep shooting the paper, until i buy a new gun?

:)

Sounds splendid! Punch holes in paper until you're getting groupings that feel good to you. Practice some more. Buy something else, then start all over!

My first rifle (since my teen years) will be a 10/22. Then, if my dad still has my Winchester 30-30 I'll reclaim that. Then I want something suitable for deer and moose, probably a Savage 111.

Then a handgun and perhaps a shooting game like IPSC.

Armstrong huh? My aunt and her son live there. Beautiful area!

edit: I think this should be in the introductions area... a mod will probably move it :)

I picked up a swing style target for my 22. Has 4 swing type metal targets that flip up and a 5th at the top that releases them back down. Shooting something that moves is a heck of a lot more fun the paper hole punching. I've made some IDPA targets and started double taps into multiple targets which is also a lot of fun to see how quickly you can do this accurately. Anyway, good luck with your new firearm.

I have one of those 'swinger' type targets like Travel240z has, they are fun but I've really beat the crap out of mine, so I bought a metal target that has a 'travelling' center darn, it's hard to explain, anyway, it allows two people to compete with each other. it takes about 5 solid hits on your bullseye to make it travel to the end and drop a flag to indicate the winner. However, if your opponent makes the same 5 solid hits, the traveller stays in the middle.
It's a lot of fun if you have a shooting buddy that is close to your skill, or you can introduce handicaps, like your opponent has to shoot with iron sights, or a handgun or left handed...etc. until you get to near equality.
I bought it from Myron at Westside Stores in Salmon Arm.
It was a bit spendy at about $60, so if you want to try it (and promise not to shoot it with a centerfire), I'll dig it out and you can borrow it.

"...I was having trouble with my scope yesterday..." What kind of trouble?
"...have glasses..." You should be able to adjust the focus.
You will have to try a box of as many brands of ammo as you can to find the brands or brands your rifle shoots best. The price of said ammo means nothing either. .22's are just like that.
