hey cgn'rs

i am new to shotguns and will be looking to hunt waterfowl this year. would like to get some practice in shooting skeet. anyone know of a club in central ontario ( i live in brechin/ orillia area ) that allows people to show up and shoot skeet?

thanks in advance!

Don't know if Orillia will allow guests or not but they would be your closest, I believe Uxbridge allow guest and Oshawa will . At Oshawa you will have to sign a waiver and pay a slightly higher fee than regular member for your round of skeet or trap.
Forgot to add Oshawa is open today at 9:30. If you see them at the front desk they can send you out with an experienced member and don't forget to bring your PAL.

Are you sure it's skeet you are looking for to practice for waterfowl? Skeet is a great game, but there may be others that would be more representative of waterfowl challenges.

C’mon Rob, be positive! Skeet is like waterfowling ... but faster. (Or should I say waterfowling is like skeet ... but slower?) In any case, skeet positions 3, 4, 5 make you practice leading the targets...just the skill you need fer ducks. And besides, any form of shooting is just plain fun.

There is no doubt that sporting clays is the most representative of actual bird hunting, and trap is the least representative, but every 90% or better skeet shooter that I have hunted with has done well in the field.

Sorry guys. I did not mean to denigrate skeet. Maybe your decoys and calling are better than mine was. For me, birds that close in were rarely the norm unless they had that "OH CRAP" look in their eyes and were trying to fly backwards like a hummingbird. High pass and quartering in or out - rarely going opposite directions at the same time.

I idolize sheet shooters. They break targets with guns only a small step up from a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun! Truly amazing.

Rob!

We shoot a lot of geese every year that have their wings cupped, and their feet are stretched out getting ready to land, sometimes we actually let the first few land. When they are almost stationary, killing them is much easier than shooting skeet. As for skeet, 410 is more of a challenge, but many shooters shoot similar scores whether using a 28 or 12 gauge.
