Well here is one of my Christmas presents. 1951 Tula. Really love this rifle already, really fun.

I've done a bit of reading on them. I can't find any refurb marks on this rifle, and all the components as near as I can tell appear to be date proper. Really hope I didn't shoot a brand new SKS, can somebody help me prove its a refurb, just to calm my conscience?

It has the 45* gas block, floating firing pin with the L shaped retaining pin in the ejector,square cut out of the slot for the rear cap, no forced serials that I can see, I think its chrome lined but not sure, and I can't see any refurb marks but I hear they were inconsistant with marking them. What do you guys think? Should my shooter have been a collector?

look at the date on the receiver. If the is a small " r" behind it, it is factory rebuilt. as in "1951r"

wrong. They all have an r after the date, it translates to "in the year of".

The stock seems to be a little on the brown side for a non refurb, but it could be the lighting in your pics. Post up pics of the entire rifle for a good answer. Either way, keep it clean and you can't ruin it by firing it.
 
Alright thanks will do. I think cleaning is half the hobby so it will be like new for years to come. The lighting in that room sucks, next time I take it out I'll get better photos and include component photos. If it was brand new I'm thinking about maybe picking up another and getting some wax paper and cosmo and storing it.

Congrat:) Very nice Tula you got there. beautiful 1951 and with the correct harwood stock! Btw, dont worry if the extractor,gas tube, piston and rear sight are electro-penciled, its perfectly normal with thoses parts as they cannot be stamped because they are small or thin. On a refurb, refurb stamps are missing sometimes. I have a 1954 and a 1955, with refurbs stamps but they seems to have only have a stock change, otherwise they are as new inside and out. How the inside of receiver and hammer face look? Any signs of wear? Refurb or not, hard to tell but its a real beauty for sure:)

Congrats on your beautiful new baby! Take good care of her and feed her lots n lots of cheap Czech baby food! Just make sure you wash her good after each meal or she will get a rash!On a serious note that's one nice looking Russkie!have fun.
