Hi,

Im a poor fellow student and I recently bought a stevens 200 in 223 to start shooting at the lowest cost possible !

I bought somes american eagle ae223 55gr from canadiantire and I would like to know what kind of accuracy I can achieve with that.

Should I start reloading (someone at the range can reload for me) or should I continu shooting commercial until I can see a difference on the paper ? Will I see the difference if I reload..

thanks !:nest:

Shoot what you have first. There are fudamentals that need to be engrained in your head first that go beyond accurate ammunition.

As well, reload your own when you can. Do not get reloads from someone else.

Good luck.

I wouldnt trust someone elses reload unless i was there while loading for quality control.
I was in the same situation as you when i started. You will see that if you get a lee hand press you will start saving very quickly

Reloading is an integral part of precision shooting and enjoyable endevor in itself. The earlier you start, the better, as it will save money and provide superior results.

Reloading gear does not need to cost alot and properly assembled handloads will shoot better then any factory fodder you will find on the shelves of Cdn tire and walmart.

Big things to get done is bed that Stevens. The inletting is too sloppy and you will not see the best you ammo can do.

Lighten the trigger. It can get to around 3 to 3.5lbs. Not bad to start but not ideal. Adding a Timney will drop your pull down significantly and this can help with groupings.

Good optics, rings and bases. you can't hit what you can't see. You don't need to spend a ton of money but you should consider decent quality optics with some magnification.

Then handload. My favorite load is the 75gr Amax or Berger, over Varget, lit by a CCI 450 primer in prepped Win brass (other brands will work just as well).

If you need more info, send me an email at info@mysticprecision.com and I can send you a list of the stuff I use in my rifle. Not the most expensive but it all works.

Articles on my website in the tech section should also help with load tuning and scope set up.

There is no reason why this rifle will not shoot sub MOA. I have had a couple that were dangerously cose to 1/2 min rifles. For the money, how you complain.

Good luck and enjoy...

Jerry
