New To The Black Arms - Need Help

Hey There

I am new to this Black arms world, I admit to knowing nothing about these rifles but I would like to purchase one. What should I be looking for? I'm not into Norc's, I have seen the AR15's but I'm not sure whose product to look at. I'm interested in some long range accuracy and possibly the .308 cal over the .223.

Any suggestions to start this thread.....
 
Hmmm...

As far as long range accuracy goes, bolt guns will probably give you better bang for the buck.

If you want .308 in a "black" rifle, you can buy a Norinco (I know you aren't into them) M14S and then put it into a Sage EBR chassis (or a TROY or a Marstar chassis), and that's more than scary looking enough for anyone. You could also get an AR-10 or variant (restricted of course). Or you could buy a Springfield...I think they have a version in a black fiberglass stock...maybe called the SOCOM?

There's not a pile of stuff in .308 that didn't get labeled as "evil" by C-68.

For longer range accuracy in a .223, the Swiss Arms PE-90 and the H&K SL-8 seem to be at the head of the pack for out-of-the-box performance.

The nice thing about many of these rifles is that they hold 90% of their value as long as you take care of them. If you purchase a Stag or LMT 16" AR and take reasonable care of it, you'll get back most of what you paid for it when you decide to sell it to buy a PE-90 because you want to hunt coyotes. (this is just an example)
 
If you're looking at a .308 semi and aren't into the M14 then your options are limited.

There's the DPMS LR-308. Another contender is the Armalite AR-10.
I recommend you look for as many reviews as you can possibly find. Also You'll notice a price difference between the two. It's up to you which one is the better value, and which ones suits your needs.

Keep in mind that you can always order and have a guns smith put in a better trigger for an AR-10 or AR-15 style rifle. If the rifle comes with the stock AR trigger you may as well spring for the match grade trigger first thing.

There's a Springfield Armory M1A for sale in the EE. Any of the big firearms dealers in Canada either stock SA or can bring 'em in for you. Before you do that, I highly recommend you go to the Main Battle Rifle forum and read the comments about the SA versus the Norinco. You'll be very surprised. Just because its made by SA (civilian company, not federal armoury) doesn't necessarily mean that its a great product. Forget about anything you read about Norinco products on American web sites like Fulton Armory, etc...not applicable to Norinco products now imported into Canada! That info is over 10 years out of date.
