Hi new to the forums and recently just got my PAL.

Dumb question. With a budget of around 5-600 bucks, what would be a decent bolt action rifle to look into? .223/270/30-06 would be a bonus.
thanks for the help.

Welcome and congrats on the PAL. Savage Axis is hard to beat for the money. If you're on a shoestring budget with ammo and going by your list, .223 is cheapest out of the bunch and easy to get in bulk so you can shoot a lot more at the range unless you get into reloading then the world of more expensive calibers is your oyster.

Another vote for a Savage Axis, if you are new to shooting I would pick up a 22 LR first though if you don’t have one. Savage makes a Mark II which is available in wood that’s around $200. A 22 LR is cheaper to feed and easier to practice with than a centerfire, you don’t need a much room to fire one, and don’t have to worry about noise as much. A .223 is generally used for something different than a .270 or 30-06 is.
