New to the game

Hey everyone. I just got my gun license and have very little experience with guns. However I am very excited to start. I’m looking for guidance on what to buy. Through the PAL course and YouTube videos I watch, a pump action shotgun has most of my interest. That’s not to say I’m not open to any other suggestion for a beginner. I’m interested in joining a gun club and working on my craft over there. Not interested in hunting. I am seeking any guidance anyone is willing to offer on what gun or guns I should buy. I think to start my budget would be $3000

Welcome to the rabbit hole!

Not a big shotgun guy, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt lol.

That being said, I would get a basic mossberg 500, Remingtion 870, or whatever guys recommend and get out and start shooting. Pick up a good solo clay chucker and a ton of clays and target loads.

Once you get into it, then dump the big money on a $3000 gun. I would recommend the same process for other disciplines as well. Once you learn the basics you are in a better position to get the high-end gun as this is a very personal thing based on your style, body, and what type of shooting you end up enjoying most.

You will be able to get multiple guns and a scope with that budget. I just took a quick gander at the Bass Pro website. $500 can get you a pump with three chokes, Win SXP 12 gauge. $550 for a Ruger 10/22 stainless. $500 for a Savage Axis with scope in 30-06, 270win or the man bun cartridge. You can keep buying more or save the remaining for later to contribute towards a higher quality choice that you start to like more. And there's always used and milsurp stuff too. Cheap guns are fun too as long as they go bang. Cheers and enjoy your new hobby.
