New to the pistol scene with a Norinco 1911

I like an undercut trigger guard and a high grip beavertail on my 1911's, as well as a magwell and thinner grips. I've also put oversize firing pin stops with a small radius on the bottom in my Norc's. A properly fitted bushing is nice too, as well as better sights. Pretty soon you're into STI Spartan money though, but it is fun doing it yourself. There's not much Norc left in this one.

That's lovely looking work!

My .05 on mods to a Norinco 1911:

Mods on a 1911 are a highly personal thing. Over time & with experience your tastes, wants, requirement etc will change.

Personally, on a Norc 1911 I like to change out the trigger & grips only.

So what would be a good mag well grip, I like the 8 round mags and want to cover them up a bit!

I've used the Ed Brown Maxi well that replaces the mainspring housing and has a magwell that attaches with a screw, and I've made my own magwell and welded it to the original mainspring housing. I believe Smith and Alexander makes a one piece similar to this as well, but I haven't used one. The gun in my picture has the Ed Brown magwell, which I bead blasted and parkerized to match the rest of the gun.

So getting a new to me norinco 1911 for Christmas. Searching threads and see lots on them and things people do. Also see people saying read up on fine tuning. But not finding the fine tuning info so anyone recommend sites or links to fine tuning.

Note I will shoot the cap out of it but want this as a project gun to learn about fine tuning and such.

Here's a site with some good reading.

Also 1911forum.com and the Jerry Kunhausen books are great resources.

I have a Norinco 1911C in commander size, with cuts in the slide, commander style hammer, ambidextrous safety, skeletonized trigger, large beavertail and many more... generally it is the same as the police model with the 4,25 barrel. I made a few modifications to it, including cerakote finish. I want to replace factory sights as all of you said but in this respect I encounter a problem. They are assembled from the factory the same as the model police in dovetail, but no one knows what size these cuts are and I unfortunately cannot measure them properly ... Does anyone with honorable colleagues knows the size of the factory dovetail Norinco cuts?

Sights that I prefer are either set xs big dot system, or preferably leave the factory front and exchange only rear sight for 10-8 match national U-notch or Novak 1911 auto-carry. I prefer a clear picture of sights with only dot or fiber on the front. This set of three dots, which is now does not work for me. Therefore painted front and to smooth rear with no points and dots would be perfect. Somwhere at the Canadian Forums I found that cut at the front is an unusual dimension from Norinco but the back is the same as the Colt 70's, but I'm not sure of it. Unfortunately with no dimensions, any shop doesn't want to choose the instruments to my gun because they do not know that will fit :-(
Maybe someone has remade this subject in his Norinco and can recommend instruments that used and which will fit without milling the slide?

That was probably me. The rear sight is a standard Colt dovetail. The front dovetail is narrow.

So order a set of dovetail sights in the style you want, for a Colt 1911, 70 series. The gunsmith will have to open the front dovetail up to fit the new front sight.

I have one of the Norinco's myself and am looking to change the trigger but am looking for something that needs minimal fitting. I stumbled across these triggers but don't know if they would be a good fit. Anyone ever use one? Greider Precision?

I don't want to go crazy with modding up the gun, but maybe a new trigger, and a few little things here and there.

Any recommendations for a direct fit trigger?
