I took the non restricted, and restricted PAL course this weekend. now i'm just starting to get my feet wet and figure out what my first firearm will be.

Just wanted to say hi to the community and possibly ask a question, maybe someone has some experience about this. about 5 1/2 years ago a disgruntled ex girlfriend charged me with assault, it went to trial and the crown withdrew the charges before the trial had completed when the realized she was lying. the actual withdrawl took place about 4 years 3 months ago. will this have an effect on my approval for a gun licence? any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm no lawyer, and don't have any experience with this kind of thing personally, but from what I remember of the application questions I think it has been long enough ago for it not to affect the process.
The questions that it could affect are the ones where they ask if you have ever been charged with a crime that you weren't acquitted from, and also the question about whether you have ever been charged with domestic violence in any form. If you lived with this ex girlfriend that could complicate things, because she may actually have to sign your application, or be notified by the CFC that you are applying to get firearms, if you're within the time limit they specify on the application form (can't remember what it was off the top of my head, but it says on the form how long it is... 3 years seems to sound right).
If in doubt, call the Canadian Firearms Centre and ask them directly to save your time and money.
