Greetings

I am new to the sport with a PAL, although I served 5 years in the Canadian Forces as infantry. I am waiting for approval to get into some ranges and was wondering if anyone knows where to shoot on a farm in Caledon with permission. I do see shotguns are allowed.
If you want a guest at the range I'll buy beers at the Legion afterwards.
I am dying to try my new vz 58.
Thanks

Welcome!! Just a piece of advice as someone who has a ton of experience with Caledon clubs, be careful where you join as some clubs are not as friendly as they seem. I was thrown out of a club just because I'm an IPSC shooter and higher certified than anyone in the club including the president. It has a tendency to intimidate people!!!!!

I seem to have the wrong mentality. For me, a Gun range, is a Gun range. It's not a "Club" in that I sit around in a empty room talking with people. It's a service. I pay money. I shoot. Why would someone get "kicked out" because they know more/more experienced then the people who run the club? That said, I don't do ANY competition shooting. I can see where personalities would clash in shooting competitions.

You are close to Camp Borden. The ORA has a full program there and shoots just about every weekend. If you have a 858 you would enjoy the CQB shooting.

If you don't have a pistol, I can lend you a rig.

Caledon? Good luck getting past any municipal bylaws .... it's Region of Peel ....... you'll need to get North of #9 into Dufferin or Simcoe County if you want to find somewhere on private property.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I appreciate it. I am quickly learning the most frustrating part of the sport is finding a place to shoot.

Do a day trip up to Owen Sound and I'll take you to my range...but not until warmer weather!

100m high power, 20m pistol, 100m .22, skeet, trap, archery.

If you take me up on this, then you buy the beers in my Legion. War stories at the bull#### table allowed.

Former CSM Combat Support Coy, now Admin Coy, MWO McPherson took over from me when I moved on, just after the Barber Armoury opened on Todd St.

Keep in touch by PM.

I too say Base borden, send them an email and copy your military papers and good to go once it's done...only thing I don't like is shooting is only twice a month depending on range not being used by base.
welcome by the way..
Glenn.

Caledon bylaws prohibit any shooting larger than .270 and you have to be on land zoned gor agriculture.

I make the 1:10 hr drive to the Barrie Gun Club. There is a range north of Orangeville that I have yet to look into because the waiting list was long at the time. Might be better now?

Welcome to CGN ;)

Unfortunately there is a disturbing "old boys club" mentality, when the range director starts making his own rules that contradict any and every law ive ever known about pistol and rifle range rules, and the president worries only about shotgun and nothing else, its not fun. Then there is the board of directors collusion that causes the membership to be there only to take up spots in chairs, that threw me over the edge. When I began to open my mouth and educate the membership on their stupidity, I paid the price. They took the opportunity to inform me that I "was not a good fit for the club". Its clubs like this that give our sport a horrible name and keep the taboo alive and well about what we do and love. I fought them for a while but realized that these guys are set in their ways and I told them to go fly a kite. I guess I made a bigger impact than I thought as one of the board members resigned due to not wanting to be a part of personal agendas of the board, and the members are now finally starting to see with eyes open what is really going on in there. Pretty crappy but I am now joining a very friendly club that accepts all types of disciplines and has respect for all of them. they also promote our sport and I will do everything in my power to help the club expand and flourish.
