My dad and I just picked up a couple of S&W revolvers, a M29 44 Mag 6" for me, and a M57 41 Mag 4" for him. I haven't ever had a big bore magnum revolver, and he hasn't had one in 25 years. Who makes the best reloadable ammo for these? Since I have no brass I figure I might as well get the loaded rounds

We also picked up and a very nice Schofield. Can we still get brass? Anyone have loading data for .44 Russian? We are still figuring out what we are going to do with it.

Any 44 magnum factory loaded ammunition on the market will punch holes in paper. Also, any brand you buy with brass cases will be suitable for reloading.
I would not load full maximum loads found in any loading book in that 6 inch 29. Even after "working up," to them.

Loaded ammo in those sizes is a VERY expensive way to buy components. If you're going to get into reloading anyway then sure, by a box of 50 or even a couple. But buy brass, bullets, primers and powder separately and get into reloading.

Starline and Remington sells brass for all three of those calibers. Anyone that handles reloading supplies in your area should be able to get it for you. Bullets for the .41Mag are going to be a bit of a bear though if you want jacketed so you can shoot at the max velocity. It's not a common caliber so it likely won't be easy to find.

.44Russian is still well supported. Go to http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp and run the steps to see the loading data for .44Russian. And that's only one source. You'll find it in loading data books as well.

I usually get my ammo at lebarons since its right near my work and I just can pick it up on the way home. The .44 russian is a black power gun, so I think black powder load only if I decide to do it. We might just sell it.

I already reload my pistol ammo, so its just a matter of buying components for reloading. If I reload, I will be making milder loads most likely.
