Recently an older friend told me of a trick from his Viet Nam days to free seized threaded parts on aircraft and other things. Tincture of Iodine put on any exposed portion leading to the threads left for 24 hours usually worked. Just tried the trick on an old East India lock that was late 1700's and well seized- applied Iodine waited 24 hours and just now took it apart-really slick. Had to pass this on for those into the really old stuff. Cheers

If you leave it on longer than that you will think permanent lock tight is easy to get off.

In the pre lock right Era, iodine was used as thread lock because it rusts the parts solidly in place.

We have used Iodine for many years here on the farm to loosen rusted bearings/tapered collars/nuts on farm equipment...nothing we tried from the commercial "loosener" market even comes close, Iodine will work when nothing else does.
