New Ukrainian Rifle

StagArms???

Greentips, some translation please!!! :)

PS. This is probably Russian, no? Ukrainians are not allowed to carry firearms, afaik.

Cute. We might see it in 10 years? Has anything by Fort ever been imported to Canada?

Did you notice the pistol in 5.7x28 right after?

edit with a quick translation and summary:

This is from the Ukrainian Expo earlier this year. The guy in the video speaks Russian. The booth dudes reply in Ukrainian (I'm not fluent but it's close enough that I can understand it)

The proprietary rifle is still in prototype, short stroke gas system, non-reciprocating charging handle. "AK-like" trigger system. The upper with the operating components is aluminium, the 'lower' is plastic. He goes on to complain/suggest that the pistol grip needs to be AR-compatible.

Not much about the pistol. It is also a prototype. He is happy about the trigger.

Looks alot like a modified ar-type if that's the one after StagArms. Hard to judge, dude didn't even pick it up.

Strange that they said the pistol is a prototype??? I am pretty sure Teapot was going to get it imported if enough people showed interest. That's FORT 28, no?

Yes the one after the stag booth and the quick glimpse of the antimateriel rifle. He calls it Fort 250, cal 5.45.

It doesn't sound like an AR at all given the short stroke system. If anything more ACR/SCAR inspired. I believe he was not allowed to pick it up.

Yes, that's Fort 28. The booth dude states it's a prototype when asked if it's a production gun <shrug>. Hopefully things work out with Teapot importing them.

Didn't Ukraine get a license to build Tavors on their own (Fort-221/222)? They should stick to those IMO.

Video from 30:43 - 34:18:

"Next to me is Fort 250, its a prototype of a new assault rifle, assault rifle complex from the Fort company.
Unique feature at last is that its is company own design, in this particular instance it is 5.56, which is already as I can say looks modern and up to date.
It has, as we saw in SCAR, polish GROT and Bushmaster ACRs, sturdy aluminum chassis with everything assembled on top of it. I assume the barrel is quick change. So we are talking about modular system.
Gas piston system, is it not?

- Its a short stroke gas piston

- I also expect there is a gas regulator somewhere

- Yes, there is (points to the gas block in front of the chassis)

- It is as I said a prototype but it looks finished. It is full ambi (points to mag release) and this is bolt release (points at the lever at the bottom of the trigger guard). Like GROT. From initial impression I would like to change the angle of the safety, more like AR if you could. And also, just a comment from myself, I would like to see in this type of rifles an ability to fit AR style grip. I mean just the standard mount from AR grip. It would really make it easier for you to manufacture cause the bottom part over here, is it going to be aluminum?

- Plastic bottom

- Anyway it would make it cheaper to make and easier to repair and customize... Adjustable butt stock with cheek piece. Well under barrel there is a grenade launcher I won't mention cause its purely military gear. To summarize: modern modular multi caliber quick switch barrel, gas piston, also charging handle is reversible. Is it reciprocating?

- No it does not move

- Oh, its an important feature. While firing next to a cover moving handle can be a significant disadvantage. Its nice to have it on the left it helps with reloads. And the rest of the fire controls are already close to a modern layouts. I can't really handle the rifle a lot, but it looks very very polished and close to production already. What kind of trigger you have in there? Is it your own?

- Yes, its our own design. Close to AK fire control group.

- Well overall guys this is already quite something. This is a first time, sorry to be sentimental, first time I'm glad to see our domestic design to be on such a level, not just modernization but a new design. Thank you very much"

Did not expect this video would made it here.
It's their own development but of course they took best ideas from everywhere, and that is the right way to design new rifle. Being just prototype will see if it makes into production, there should be some interest from gov or other countries to make it possible though. I am very pessimistic because of big AR platform lobby. But we will see.

Ukrainians are not allowed to carry firearms, afaik.

In some aspects they are allowed even more than us, in other - less. They can own converted auto (think from any historical firearm to AKs), their classification system is based on "manual/semi/full and barrel length) and there's no fear-mongering categories (think all the goodies that are prohib by name). Unlimited magazine capacity. You can transport loaded firearm in your car ready available. Their Police officially encourage citizens that use firearm in legal home-defense and kill intruders. On the con side - no handguns for general public (you can own one stored at range or can own one that shoots "non-lethal" rounds) and regulations are based on Police directives, not actual gun laws, mandatory registration of every rifled firearm and that includes sample of projectiles shot.
