New upper to a 90' Colt AR-15 HBar?

I've a 1990 Colt AR-15 HBar that I purchased new but it had not been shot until a few months ago. I'm now starting to dabble with the AR platform more and want to replace the handle upper with a new upper that has a rail.

Will most any AR-15 upper fit my hbar?

If I recall the (front?) takedown pin hole is a different size and needs an adapter. It's been a while since this question has been asked and can't quite recall....
otherwise yes any upper will fit.
 
From 1964 until the late 90's Colt AR-15s made for police and civilian markets were different than those for military markets. Differences include the front pivot pin, trigger and hammer axis pins, the sear block, and the bolt carriers. You need to figure out which of these features your gun has in place. If it's just the front pivot pin there is an adapter made to let you use standard uppers.
 
Yours likely has a large pivot pin as has been mentioned. Daniel Defence used to make large pivot pin flat top uppers but they were expensive and no longer available. Conversion pins have been made over the years but are getting harder to find. You could also have a competent ‘smith mill out the larger dia hole in any old upper. You’d lose the anodizing though.

If you go ahead I’d be interested in buying the A2 upper.
 
Adapting a large pin Colt upper/lower to mil-spec is a pain in the arse with the bushing. If you want something different see if you can work a trade in the EE. That, or sell it, and get what you want. I liked my HBAR as an A2, if it wasn't for that damn bushing I'd still have the A2 Upper Receiver, and loving that Rear Sight. One thing's sure, you'll find it difficult to replace it, that level of quality is expensive in Iron Sights.
