I just put in a pre-order for the new Vortex HS LR FFP model (6 X 24 X 50mm). They're not available until mid-July (hopefully) but thought I'd grab one and wait it out. The idea is to mount it atop a .243 loaded for LR hunting.

It appears there is not much difference between the new Viper HS and the PST FFP ($50 price difference), aside from the new XLR reticle and capped windage turret. I haven't looked through PST glass but do have a Viper 6 x 20 x50 mm and it appears good value for money.

I've never shot a FFP reticle. How does the FFP PST fair on targets-is the reticle fine enough to not obsure small targets?

Also, any comments on Vortex PST vs. Sightron SIII series welcome (I know, its probably been done already :p)

1/2 MOA for the elevation, that's right. Is must have changed a appease the long distance shooters because a PITA to dial 1/4 MOA clicks when adjusting for long distances. This jump strays from conventional offerings...1/2 MOA means 1.5" at 300 yds vs. 0.75" incremental adjustments with 1/4 MOA turrets. Any drawbacks foreseen from the PST audience?

My 6-24X50 FFP is great. Reticle thickness subtends .18 MOA. I do not find it too thick. I shoot LR and having the FFP is awesome! I wouldn't touch the HS, only because of the 1/2 MOA clicks.
