I ordered in a bag of Winchester brass in 25-06. 8 of the 50 had split necks. I have used a lot of winchester brass in 30-06 and 270wsm, 300 win mag, etc. I might have found one in a package before... Anyone else finding this problem. I will have to switch to Remington or see if I can get Lapua or Norma.

Its not worth shipping back, but I am disappointed in there quality control.

That does seem too high of a 'rejection rate'. I would at least email Winchester and complain.

For what it's worth, I have had more 'rejections' from Remington brass than Winchester. I've never owned a 25-06, yet.

Good luck.

A few yrs ago I had 2 out of 100 same thing. Can't remember the calibre, but might have been 25-06. I called the distributor, and he just said tough crap, take it up with Winchester, which I never bothered doing.

Winchester is still one of the best brass companies. There stuff is consistant and lasts better than the rest but the quality control of late ia a bit sucky. I would contact winchester directly.. They may have one of their dealers in Canada help you with this issue. On the bright side, the ones you have left will outlast double that number of cartridges made by the other guys unless it was a match brass company.(Lapua, Norma, Nosler)
Carry on!

I had good results with 30-06 and 270wsm lasting with no problems. My next best option is Nosler 270win brass and neck it down...

Had this once with some factory white box ammo. Out of 50 rounds 5 of them split on initial firing.

I was worried that it was the gun and not the brass so I took it back to the store where I bought both. The gunsmith told me that recently he had heard of a few people having problems with winchester brass and that they were talking to the factory to try to get an answer.

I never did find anything else out about the problem but I know that the rest of the brass out of the box has lasted me longer than my remington and federal brass.

I find I have to check very closely on their 223wssm brass...small neck on large diameter brass puts alot of stress when forming, seemingly. Some have splits on shoulder-neck junction.
Pays to inspect carefully.....
