Well the tracking number shows my guns is enroute!!! I bought a 1.5 year old one with fixed and folding stocks and it is in .223 and 7.62x39 calibers. I feel it was a very very good price since it comes with multiple mags as well for just over $2000.00. So i need something to tie me over. I have read the stickies but have a couple questions still that are not addressed by them. I will put them in Point form to be clear what I am looking for:

1) Since this rifle is 1.5 years old or there abouts am I likely to have the first gen or second gen gun?? The reason of course is do I have the better trigger setup adn adjustable gas system??

2) to those that have upgraded the triggers etc on teh first gen. has it made that big a difference or would a good trigger job be the smae outcome??

3) I am looking for what kind of accuracy people have gotten with a decent optic and a serious effort taken to do so?? I know a couple people have tried but i just question how hard they tried and did they go with different types of ammo to balance what the gun was able to do versus the ammo's limitations??

I am looking for qualified answers guys. Even if you just have links for me to read that will be great as well.

As a side note I am dying to shoot it as well because I am looking towards the XCR-M if I love this rifle so much. I would be able to get rid of several guns i own now when the "M" model comes out depending on the range of calibers that one comes in.

ALl repsonses and information is appreciated guys!!!!!!!!

I may be wrong here but if it has the ambi safety it should have the new trigger. Mine is from the first shipment to Canada that have the new trigger and ambi safety. I like the feel of the trigger, it feels lighter and smoother then my AR and AR180. My rifle was shipped June 2009 so yours sounds like it' right on the cusp of Having the new setup.

I'm no expert but I'm sure the first shipment had XCR lazered into the receiver. From what I was told the first shipment does not have the "match" trigger. I have one from the second shipment and I have the "match" trigger and no XCR lazered..My XCR is reasonably accurate for having an 4x acog...I have recently put a 6-24x50 scope on it and expect better performance...Plus every gun I own shoots better than me:)

The improvements overlap each other, so it hard to go by visually, Email RA is your best bet as to what features you have.

Only visual cue is the trigger guard, if it is replaceable than it is at least a couple of years old, more than likely it has an original trigger unless the previous owner upgraded it.

Here are the improvement/feature orders as far as I can remember.

-Quick gas adjustment
-Quick detach sling loop near the stock adapter
-Switching from 5.56 barrel marking to .223 barrel marking
-Intergrated trigger guard
-Improved triiger
-2 piece piston rod
-Ambi safety
-logoless lower and none-mid slot mil spec rails upper

Thanks guys, I read up on that link and got alot of information about it. Do they really need anything out of the box though?? I do not think so but you hear all sorts of thing. My gun is used but well cared for.

This is my target at 50 yds with an EoTech w/ 4x magnifier, shooting from a bipod.

You need:

- LAR mags if you go plinking in the wild
- lots of ammo
- sights. I tried a holosight on it and didnt like it, have gotten an aimpoint since and its great

I had a ACOG on last year and felt I couldnt get the full potential out of the gun at range..This year I have a 6-24 and will be able to make the long shots at the critters...Its not a combat carbine...its an 18.5 inch rifle might as well put a decent optic on it....

AImpoint real or fake?? Are you using a magnifier as well??

Real (C3 2 MOA). I wont buy fake chinese crap (in the end you buy twice) but you could get a bushnell or vortex.

Take in mind that aimpoints are the only red dots without parallax error...

I dont have a magnifier as my XCR is a short distance plinker :D

Well gus with the 7.62x39 it is short range of course, but with the .223 i would like to plink at 200 so some glass is in order. So another question comes to the forefront, what glass is everone using and hte price range you paid. I expect to spend more than 50 bucks but can I get a very good optic for less than 400 or even 300???

you get what you pay for. I consider bushnell 3200 series a great deal for the money and still affordable

I dont have the best scopes but I traded and swaped and sold some stuff and ended up with 2 bushnell eilte 4200 tacticals for not much money....watch the EE ...I saw 50calshooter has a 4200 elite on there and for the money they are decent

Well I think I need at least a 4-12 for the .223 round but i think I will stay a bit smaller like 44mm as the 50mm looks a bit big. I like lower mounted scopes, I have found a couple of leuopolds but we will see. I have to recieve it and shoot it first to see where exactly I want to go. I was thinking of the vortex strikeforce though with the magnifier but it does not seem like it wil be enough scope for when I get my hands on the 6.8 caliber kit.

Well each to his own..Its a flat top rifle and for me to get the eye piece at the right comfortable hieght I had to use extra high rings/mount and it made the smaller objective look stupid to me. I would like to have my scope mounted lower to but oh well...

Thanks Paul!!!! That is the kind of first hand knowledge I was looking for when it came to accuracy and this gun.

No problem. Do note that the target was six shots not five. There are two through the middle of the bottom group. Also note it was from a bipod, not a bench rest, so I blame the two out of the tight group on my ability, rather than the gun or ammo.

It was shot with regular 55 gr Winchester white box.

Everyone says it should work better with 62 gr, but they appear to be less accurate to me.

Hey if it works for you that is what matters in the end. I may mount mine lower and find it is not high enough as well. Trial and error but I want to avoid too much $$$$ loss in that part of the equation!!!! lol

I have heard the 62gr is better as well but a few people have liked the performance of the 55gr like you. I wil have to try them myself but at least I knwo where to start. I am not looking for one ragged hole at 100 yards but I do not want a five inch group at 100 either. I do plan on using the .223 as my varmit gun, of course i have the 7.62x39 and have surplus ammo so that is just for range fun, I also need to track down what people are shooting in the 6.8 so I know what is a good starting point there as well.
