Iam total newb for shotguns so please have patience with me on this one ;) I got Charles Daly 301 Tactical 12 Ga 18.5″ Adjustable Stock from site sponsor.

I just unpacked this shotgun and noticed that chokes are missing ? I have two chokes as Indicated on the pics and choke that’s looks like breacher ? Manual doesn’t say much how many chokes in the box but I think they are missing. At least 3 more.

anyhow , I plan( actually my teenage sons) to shoot clay discs as still targets, on the ground water balloons, water melons etc etc. so nothing fancy or advanced and no hunting. I bought this shells with it Target Load Handicap 12 Ga 2-3/4″, 1-1/8oz #8 and some cheap slugs.

In order to be safe :

1. which choke should I install ? I have only two and something that looks like breacher but no other info.
2. Do I have to install different choke every time i go between slugs and shells like one I mentioned above?

again, Iam total newbie in this and I bought this for my teenage sons to shoot with me at our friends farm. Safety is my biggest concern.

Please advise,

IC or C - use slugs

Target load use whatever choke you want. I use mod, improve mod, full when shooting trap. Guys who shoot skeet will use C, IC, or Skeet chokes.

Foster slugs/rifled slugs will be fine in a modified choke they are meant to swage down. Remington rifled slugs even say safe for full chokes. I would stay away from Brenneke slugs though they are harder then most slugs.

Nearly all slugs will squeeze through any choke up to lets say "Full". And I say "nearly all" because there a few exceptions. But they are not very common.

In short, you can shoot slugs, buckshot and bird shot with any of those chokes that you have.
It just depends what kind of pattern you want ....

To start out and have fun .... I would screw in the Modified choke .... an start shooting .... slugs, buckshot or bird shot ... shoot away ....

Hope this helps ...

You can safely shoot rifled slugs out of chokes up to a full choke, shot patterns and slug accuracy will change with different choke constriction and different brands of ammo will change things as well. I generally find mod gives me the best patterns and slug accuracy.

I don't know what the breaching choke would be, cylinder I would think, looks cool, not much use unless you are playing Rambo, but would be fine with slugs,
Modified is good , for average distance, long range , full choke would be better.

Phone the store and see what was suppose to be with the gun, likely what you got, the only other I would like would be a skeet or IC, with is about the same.
That was what I used on pigeon's and magpies, those suckers are gun smart.
Put some grease on the choke threads, and take them out and clean and relube after use, I have seen choke tubes left for years in a gun and a pita to get out

It seems to vary which chokes are coming with your shotgun Charles Daly 301. My online research shows that some come with no chokes, some with 2 and others with what you got. The breecher is for home defense use. I think you got enough chokes for what you want to do.

its interesting that provided manual doesn't say anything about what's what and what's in the box. Sponsoring dealer redirected me to importer, importer is directing me to warranty center. But seems to me that the best advices are coming from here , the CGN crowd.

Thank you so much everyone, I was just worried about safety of the gun in my sons hands as they say some chokes may stop the slug and explode the barel. lol thats how much I know about shutguns. but learning...

thank you

Best slugs i have found. I use them through an IC but my buddy uses a Mod with great results

My father has been shooting slugs through his old mossy 500 for decades and its a fixed full

Yeah they’re accurate shooting for me and I like a stout slug as well, fun shooting. Mod, Imp mod and full seem to be what I use the most for chokes. I get nice shot patterns and the best slug poa/poi at practical distances, mainly it’s bird shot and small game hunting but is I see a deer or bear under 100y I’m confident I’ll be cutting tags.

The Challenger are excellent but also expensive. You can get much cheaper rifled slugs, for example Federal power shock 1 oz slugs or Federal tru-ball or Remington slugger. All 2 3/4 and accurate up to 100 yards.

Those aren’t hard cast, which is why I specifically bought Challenger and one other brand. The challenger’s I got cheap as my local Crappy Tire was clearing them out a few years back, I grabbed their last 10-12 boxes.

Yes, I wanted to add that you should buy the Challenger for hunting bears. But then I would not buy a cheap shotgun either.
