Hey all,

I'm in the middle of shopping around for my first revolver. I'm not ready financially to get a s&w so I've been looking at some cheaper ones just to get me to the range and shooting until I save up. I've been looking at some of the Taurus revolvers, but I keep seeing VERY mixed reviews. Do any of you actually own one? Do you like it? Dislike? Why?

Any and all info is appreciated.

My dad has a Taurus tracker .22, 6" blued. It's been a good revolver. Shoots accurately, has a good finish, trigger is decent. Holds 9 rounds. Not sure of round count, but must be 1500. The factory grip sucked, and he put a Hogue on it.

Well, I had cylinder lock-up problems on my Model 608 .357. Turns out it was ammo. I sent it to Epps for investigation and it turns out it didn't like the ammo I was using. I switched to the Remington ammo they suggested and haven't had an issue since.

Cannon

I have a Tracker in .17HMR. Built like a tank. Accurate and well built. Trigger is decent on mine too. Still about 9lbs in double action, but only 3.5 in single action (which I mostly use anyways). I think Taurus guns are better than the reputation. Of course some lemons get through, but I've owned 4 Taurus pistols, and all were good for me.

I had one years ago in 357. I cant remember the model of it. The ejector rod would loosen up and screw out after 10 rounds or so. I sold it right quick as I could never get it to stay in place and said never again. Switched back to SW and have never looked back.Worse part was...I bought it to replace a SW distinguished combat mag 586 I sold about a year earlier..once again...never again..

I have a Taurus model 76 & it is a good shooter. It has a nice finish, is very smooth & is set up with good adjustable sights like the S&W. I like it a lot!

Check them out closely before you buy, like any other brand & have fun....

Ruger makes a great revolver. Czech revolvers are good to

You are in exactly the position I was...in 1991. I bought that Taurus, a 669 I think it was called.

Now, nearly 25 years later it remains the greatest firearms mistake I have ever made. I own a couple S&Ws, and I pine for a couple more. But I regard Taurus with pure contempt.

Thanks everyone for the input. I was actually thinking about charter arms and reuger as well. There was a charter revolver in my rpal course that I played with a lot. I definitely plan on going and getting my hands on some to make sure I like the feel of it. And I'll probably buy used.
