I know this is probably covered in CORE, but I haven't taken it, and I'm curious. Is there minimum caliber for hunting anything in BC? I saw the bison 175g restrictions, but I was thinking mainly for .223. I'm pretty sure I saw something somewhere about a .23 restriction, but I can't remember what it was about. I also tried searching, couldn't find it there either.

Thanks!

Knock yourself out.

I wouldn't use FMJ ammunition though, and I would use a magazine pinned to 5 rounds if you want to keep the rifle!

Kind of an expensive rifle to be humping through the bush, but if it makes you happy then go for it.

Just using it as an example. I'm looking for a do-everything rifle, nonrestricted and I don't want to preclude hunting. Thanks for the info :)

Even though the various .22 calibre rifles may be legal for hunting big game in BC they are NOT a good choice by any stretch of the imagination. In the right hands - read that very experienced hunter with great self control - they can be effective if loaded with the proper bullet. For most hunters however they are a disaster waiting to happen.

If you are looking for an all-round rifle for target shooting and hunting buy something chambered for a larger cartridge such as the .308.

IMHO if hunting means anything other than the typical smallish deer, wolves, and coyotes, then you need something bigger than a 223 for a "do everything rifle".

When I was a B.C. resident I used a .22-250 for a deer rifle (sitka blacktails). It worked well, just use good bullets and PICK YOUR SHOT extremely carefully! Also worked on a black bear. Not my first choice, but as they say, "You dance with the shoes you're wearin'" If I had to use just one bangstick in B.C. I'd have to go with the old plain Vanilla .30-06 or .308.

'Though I have never owned a mid power 7mm, that would be my choice of a do it all rifle.
Fifty some years ago my hunting partner got a new Brno in 7mm (7x57). I looked on it as inferior to my larger 30-06, but over the years I have thought so much about what a beautiful riful it really was and what a good calibre is the 7x57.
Someone will likely say, 7-308, which of course is equal ballistically and is just a mater of choice.

Or if your into bigger game moose elk etc various mule deer , i love my 300 wsm browning x bolt ... great rifle never had any problems ..

Absolutely agree, H. Eagleye.
