Hi, I've got an old lakefield mark II .22lr that I just restored. I want to mount a scope on it, but it isn't drilled, and doesn't have rings. I know this is probably a dumb question, but what do I need to do/get and what would be a good entry scope for varmint shooting?

Thanks

Pretty sure that this gun has a grooved receiver. This means you buy rings that attach directly onto the receiver - no bases needed. It would be a matter of determining the size of the dovetail, as it is called. I think a set of Weaver tip-off's @ ~$20 should do the trick.

For a scope I would look at a new, inexpensive, .22-specific model or a 2nd hand centerfire scope with an Adjustable Objective (AO). I would not spend more than $100. I'm cheap though. Just be sure to buy rings of the appropriate diameter for the scope you choose.
