Hey there guys, I have a question regarding an option I have in regards to optics for my newly acquired DDM4 MK18. Got the rifle from a friend of mine, and he offered me an Aimpoint CompM4S for $500 (he's had the setup for about 3 months. Rifle, optics, everything). Now...I know it's a pretty damn near top of the line rifle and it probably deserves a comparable sight but I'm not the kind of guy to go running around throwing cash everywhere. That's where the Vortex Sparc2 comes in. That sight runs about $250 around here and seems decent. What I'm looking for is a direct comparison using personal experience from you guys. Basically...is the aimpoint really worth the extra money, and why? Thanks!

There's no debate! It's like comparing a Honda Civic(Sparc) and a Mercedes 4x4(Aimpoint).

I have a SPARC(Gen1) and a Aimpoint H1, the SPARC is a nice affordable red dot but the Aimpoint is a rugged combat proven optic. The baterrie life on the M4 is like 50 000 hours!! so you just leave it on and change the batteries once a year. The dot on the Aimpoint is nice ans crisp. I had to return my SPARC twice for warranty ( Vortex warranty is excellent btw!!) but it was a Gen1 so I can't compare it to the Gen2.

You have a excellent rifle and it deserve a nice optic, a Aimpoint M4 for 500$!!(retail new 830$+) its a amazing deal you have a good friend keep him and bring him a few cold ones to show him your appreciation.

I am a huge vortex proponent.... great scopes and dots for the cash..... but if you want something to compete with the eotech you need the razor red dot.... if the sparc is temporary all good... but with rifle value go with the eotech.....

Tell you what, if you buy a Sparc over a $500 Aimpoint you're crazy. The glass, dot and brightness of the Aimpoint is incredible. There is a noticeable difference between my Vortex Razor HD red dot and an Aimpoint, imagine how a budget optic like the Sparc compares. Aimpoint glass is so crisp and clear with no hue like you get with cheaper lens coatings. The brightness can be turned way up without getting any halo or flaring and they go bright enough to not wash out against any background. Not to mention the toughness, reliability and battery life. Its a no brainer, you want your buddies Aimpoint.

here's one reason to get the sparc 2 over the m4s - the sparc 2 has a finer dot. It is 1 moa compared to the 2 moa of the aimpoint.
That is a plus or a negative depending on your application for it.

Vortex has a kick a$$ warranty..I doubt Aimpoint is as good or fast. Top of the line optics fail..Im waiting over 16 weeks for a higher end Zeiss to be fixed, Had it been a Vortex Id be waiting 3 weeks.

vortex is so godd with warranty because of the high failure rate reported.
how many people had 1-4 pst's that tracked in circles when they first bought them?

There is no warranty on second hand Aimpoints. Even with warranty, I could not find a Canadian service depot when I last checked. Please correct me if I am wrong...
