I inherited a .25 Rimfire Stevens singleshot from my grandfather.
its a nice light little shooter with a peep sight.
since there isn't any ammo around for it anymore ... i only have 6 shells left, and well maybe I could get a box from the old Western Scrounger but how far than that take me :(
.... can it be converted to a .25 Centrefire?

...the only dumb question is the one you don't ask, right?

thx,
Steve

There are no low powered .25 centerfire rounds other than .25acp and it is steel jacketed and would wear the soft barrel very quickly. The .25acp could possibly be loaded with lead bullets. But it is possible that the barrel could be lined with a .22 rifled liner and be made to fire .22 rimfire. That way it would look just as it does now but shoot something available. Either way unless you are an amateur gunsmith with skills and tools , this is all going to cost money and is the condition and the end result worth it. I would be tempted to see if I could acquire a box or two of CIL .25 rimfire ammo and go plink a few rounds now and then ,and think of your grandfather. Save your money on the conversion and buy .22 or something you can shoot a lot and maybe pass on to your children.

"...can it be converted..." Not easily nor cheaply.
OWS doesn't list any either. .25 RF is collector grade ammo. Hasn't been made for eons. Closing on 100 years. In any case, if you do anything to make it shootable with modern ammo, it stops being an antique.

The frame is the gun. I believe if the frame is old and it is not chambered in the ten or so cartidges that the Lieberals picked it will always be an antique.

.22 rimfire is not an option if you want to keeps it's status though. Are there .25 centrefire cartridges that would not make it a prohib?

Good advice. I can live with the sentimental value it brings. Thanks!
....and on the slim chance anybody's got a lead on some ammo for it, I'm just a PM away!!
