Hi,

I am sorry here, I am reading a lot on stickies and internet, but still have some dumb questions, please help?

I've jost got and SKS (Tula 52, silver, laminate, from TradeEx, extremely friendly service, btw). It had very little oil on it, so I just disassembled it, wiped it and went outside to shoot. (I even hit that paper targer on 50 yards:) After 40 rounds and no issues, came home to clean and oil.

Now questions, please correct me if I did something wrong:
I disaggembled it, put Windex through the bore, on the gas tube and gas piston/extensions, then washed it with boiling water, dry and oiled it using universal oil spay from Canadian tire.
Is it OK?
Do I have to disassemble the bolt every time? Trigger assembly?

On the sticky it says wipe it good, but the original manual (I can read russian) says oil it well. What do I do?

Which brush do I use, when and where - I cave a copper brush and plastic one.

Last one - if somebody will go to Orono Fish and Hunt on Sunday, or the Oshawa Skeet and Gun on weekend, (or anywhere near Peterborough/Oshawa where is a rifle range) can I meet you there to ask questions?

Thanks everybody!

1. you need not use both windex and water for cleaning , you can use either one . i prefer water.

2. bcos i use water and need to dry the inside of the bolt, i always dismantle the bolt everytime i clean . use no oil , the firing pin should rattle freely but if you do then wipe the oil off before shooting .

3. i do not dismantle the trigger group everytime i clean, maybe after a few shooting trips .

4. i dont like using the plastic brush , use the copper brush.

Eventually you could find/buy some real gun oil, even at Ctire.
Hoppes9 and Kleen-Bore are common ones

Go for just boiling water down the tubes, don't bother with the windex.
You want to oil it, but remove any excess with dry cloth.

Thank you guys, will try to do my best.
Next step would be scope, looks like my eyes do not like irons - when they tune for target, closest sight becomes blurry.
Would love to get smth with night vision.

For most people, this is the case. In my situation, the rear sight, front sight and the target are all blurred(astigmatic and near sighted-perfect eyesight storm):D Even then, I can manage 4 to 5 inch groups at 100 yds. Just practice and thank your lucky stars SKS ammo is cheap and plentiful, for now.

Scoping the SKS is another can of worms I prefer not to open. Read/search this forum for threads on SKS scopes.

The SKS is a fun, 4 minute-of-angle plinker that is ultra reliable, fun to shoot and cheap to feed. No decent, self-respecting scope wants to be seen on this rifle:dancingbanana:
