With my trusty 590A1 I've never had a feed jam but since aquiring a semi auto shotty for the first time (Mossberg 930) I've had the odd double-feed. I don't mean just two shells on top of the lifter, I mean 1 shell in the lifter and a second one also trying to feed from the magazine so both of them are end to end.

1. What is the quick way to clear it? i.e. during competition. Last time I stuck my fingers in while keeping one hand on the charging handle. I pushed the second shell back into the magazine. Cost me a good 5-10 seconds.

2. What is this a symptom of? Mind you I took it apart and cleaned it prior to running it. I used Froglube on the parts.

You either remove the shell on the lifter and let the second shell come out, or push the partial shell back in.
No real quick way to clear that malfunction. lifter can't move until the shell half in the mag tube is out of the way.

Has the gun been modified at all?
No reason for the shell catch to be letting the second shell past unless its been played with, or the frog lube is gumming things up.
Clean the frog lube off and throw the rest of it away (just my personal opinion.)

Does this work? It's the method I use for my pump shotgun, but dunno if the same principle applies. Push the bolt forward so it pushes the 2nd shell a little bit back into the magazine tube, then apply pressure to the feed ramp so it holds that shell in place, then pull the bolt back while maintaining pressure on the feed ramp. It should allow enough wiggle room for the 1st shell to fall out from between the bolt and the 2nd shell.

pauls, I was afraid of that. So in sum, just avoid the jam eh. Yea I am curious why those jams have happened. I don't want to blame the shotgun but it is brand new so only blasted it 3x so far. I heard with the earlier Mossberg 930s that they did not like light target loads. Both times I had the jam they were Federal 7.5 2.75"

Unagi604, your name has decided my lunch for me. In response to your video, unfortunately as it is a semi auto there is no pump to try to maneuver the second shell in the magazine. Also I have tried pressing the lifter from the outside as shown in the video and it is too stiff when both of the shells are end to end jammed in that manner. .. Perhaps if I used some more force.. will have to try this once I am back from work.

LOL. yeah, ideally you never have a double feed.
If you are going to try and play with this, try holding the receiver and charging handle in one hand, the forend with the other, and with a quick rotation and snap at the end, try and dislodge/"fling" the free shell out of the ejection port.
Never tried this, just thinking out loud, but might be faster than getting your fingers in there (unless you have very thin fingers)
If it does work, I'll take 10% royalties from all your instructional classes as you travel the world teaching your techniques.
If it doesn't, I was never here....
