Hello folks,
I'm new to everything gun-related, but I'm quickly becoming a big fan. A friend of mine took me to a coquitlam, BC based shooting range a while back and we did some target practice with his glock 0.40 - which was a real pleasure to fire. Being accurate, however, even at fairly close range takes a bit of doing, however. I got a few bulls-eyes after several clips though...
Then, we were lucky enough to meet a fellow member of the gunnutz forum - Jimmy - who referred me to this place. He was kind enough to let us fire off his mossberg 12 gauge and a remington 700 with 30 off 6 rounds. Both were great. Tremendous power on the remington 700.
One tip to other newbie shooters of guns with scopes: do NOT place your eye close to the scope - the recoil will end up placing that scope in your face at high velocity (as I found out). Also, it never hurts to wear soft plastic goggles instead of hard plastic, as you want something that will absorb some of the kick from the gun, as opposed to just transferring it directly into your face.
In any case, it was also great to see some black-powder fans at the range as well. One guy had an old musket and was just blasting away. Each shot expelled a nice quantity of half-burned powder and wadding onto the range..and enough smoke to provide a smoke-screen. Must have been ridiculous to fight a battle with several hundred of these things going off at once.
Great forum...and jimmy....give me a shout out if you see this.
