Hi everyone, just moved from Consort to Prince Albert and have finally given in and joined this site. Seems a few of my freinds have had a hay day buying and selling guns so now that I have more time on my hands I thought I would give it a try. Anyone from PA? Havent checked out the local gun shows/gun stores yet, I was told there are 2 in PA. Any one know which one is worth me blowing my overtime money at :dancingbanana:? I have found that its best to deal with one place for all your purchases because you usaly get better deals. Some gun stores (cough cough half of the stores in Alberta) seem to want to screw you over. Any of those in Saskatchewan?Looks like a cool forum, cant wait to get hooked up with EE.

Howdy, Frontier is a good guy and supports this site. Arnies is the other fellow and he's a good guy too. In P.A. we have a great gun and pistol club with great ranges.

Drop me a PM if you'd like a contact number to join. Welcome

Welcome to PA!! I have been here for a year now and am enjoying it. PM me if you ever want to go do some shooting sometime. As far as gun shops here in town I have found the best deals to be at Frontier Taxidermy. The prices at Arnie's are totally ridiculous. I stopped there today to get some primers... he wanted $50 for a box of 1,000 Federal Large Rifle primers:eek::eek: I didn't think Frontier had much for reloading supplies but he is starting to get into it and he had the primers there for $32.

Hello and welcome to CGN. I am much more into the knives and antiques than shooting which is kind of dumb considering what a great place for hunting and shooting Prince Albert is.

Does Frontier have a bricks and mortar building?

I love Prince Albert. It does not have much of a nightlife or shopping for the ladies but if you are into hunting ,fishing ,offroading ,archery ,horsebackriding
motorcycles ,bushcraft atc it is a fantastic place to live.

We have 2 local museums that are awesome if you are into guns or the fur trade era. The main museum downtown in the old firehall at central and riverstreet has some fantastic old lever actions and lots of WW1 and WW2 weapons and gear.
The corrections museum at the other end of town near the casino has a real TommyGun and a huge display of shanks taken from prisoners at the Pen over the last hundred years.

Here are a couple poor quality photos ,first the Thompson

The wall of shanks.

The other museum has a lot of guns and knives as well. It seems that museums are getting away from politically incorrect displays like weapons and even the national military museum in Ottawa has more paintings than guns but luckily that has not happened here yet.

If you have any knife questions or there is anything else I can help with let me know?
I am always looking for people to go quading with as well.

Frontier is located on 6th Avenue East... north of the Cornerstone shopping centre.

Well I finally got out tour the local gun shops. First stop was a pawn shop in the "hood". Yikes!!! other then $200.00 rusted up enfields and drunks, nothing much to look at. Next stop was Arnies Guns. Nice large shop with alot of neat guns, but oh my gosh are they ever out to lunch on prices.

I walked in there and waited a half hour for service because the guy at the counter figured it would be better to visit with his buddy then see if he could help me (and he never even bought anything). Finally after an eternity listening to these 2 exchange BS hunting stories I got a hello. And just to make one thing clear here, just because I ask alot of questions and listen to a sales pitch, does not mean that I am a pushover that is willing to pay 20-30% more for a gun then every other place out there. Now I understand small stores need to make more money then the big guys, but why do they need to make $175.00 more then SIR when it costs me only $35.00 to get it shipped!!!

Next I stoped by Frontier gun store by Walmart and found myself waiting again, this time for 40 mins. This time however I did not have to listen in on BS stories of 700 yard shots on running deer. They was about 5 people ahead of me so I didnt realy get a good look at everything but prices seemed fair, and they know their stuff. There was one young guy doing the selling and some girl who seemed to be taking order over the phone. They must have sold 5 guns in the hour that I was in there however if I have to wait that long for service I dont think I will be going back.

So I guess my choice is between the overpriced know it all at Arnies, or the place that has resonable prices but needs about twice the staff so that I can get fast service. Any other places to check out within a hour drive or less? I saw a WSS in Stoon I might check out, but its always nice to find some smaller shops because the service is better and you can shoot the Sh!t without feeling you have to move aside for the next customer.

I think you will find yourself waiting in line at Wholesale sports also. They are usually understaffed and some of the people behind the gun counter aren't very knowledgable about anything related to firearms. I will never step foot into Arnie's again ... I can't afford to pay his prices. I was in Frontier on friday to pick up a Marlin Cowboy that I ordered and he was very busy. He had a shipment of guns that had just come in and there was a line up of customers. I had to wait in line for a while but I didn't mind .... he had a lot of new stuff in stock to look at. You should give Frontier another chance ... he is very good to deal with and has some excellent prices.

I have dealt many times with Frontier and will deal their again. Yes you might have to wait because it is a new buisiness that is being completely ran by a young husband and wife team. It is because of this fact and that they do everything without help that they can maintain competitive prices. I think we should applaude an young couple who are willing to stake their future on the shooting sports.

Ever since Arnie sold his gun shop a few years ago, prices have steadily gone up and the service has gone down. Too bad that the new owners kept the store's original name because Arnie was a great guy.

I've been in Frontier and the WSS in Toon Town. Frontier is worth going back to if PA is going to be where you're staying. Fast & Friendly on my only visit (so far) You musta just hit rush hour.

WSS Saskatoon is the least impressive of the 4 WSS locations I have been to. Not as much stock as any of the other stores and slooowww service.

I was able to check out the local museum down town (what a dump and a half, not the museum the area). Lots of nice displays. Went to both gun stores agian, and oh my gosh I know now why one is so busy and the other is place to have coffee. I was so close to telling off the guy at Arnies. He is telling me that "we are a small store and need to make a higher margin then the big guys." Fine but $100.00-$150.00 More?

From what I hear guys just walk out and go to the Frontier or Wholesale sports, its like "you guys are not going to make anything when all your buisness is gone either". And if they hadnt noticed they have a empty store. I dont think they will last very long, a guy at the Frontier says buisness has been so good that they are looking into a much larger closer to Walmart in a couple years. Mabey Wholesale Sports will open a store in PA and finish those guys off, but should I hold my breath?

I have looked at the idea of a larger store, but it is atleast a year and a half away, mabey. Prices are rather high in the city as is so it would have to be a much larger location to justify the move. However if we find ourselves with a Liberal goverment this or next fall I would not even consider moving to a newer bigger building.

Welcome to both P/A and CGN, you'll enjoy both(I hope)....you will enjoy the P/A pistol and rifle club facilities....Trap, Skeet, pistol incl. ISU setups, 500 meter sillywet range, etc.....I'm out there shooting alot and rarely run into anyone, which is good when i want to chronograph or test bullets. Arnies gunshop tends to cater to folks from the north who have dif. requirements and budgets. For instance, those northerners do not reload and want loaded ammo, and generally want high end guns and scopes. They have Coopers, HS Precision, Kimber,etc...For those that want.

Arnie's never really struck me as being a high end gun shop. They didn't have anything special in there that wasn't available at any other gun shop. I did however see a nice T/C Icon in there .... which was priced at $250 more then I could get it any place else. The only people that might buy there are the ones that don't compare prices. I don't see any other reason why they would pay a premium.

They did have some high end stuff in there but that hardly qualifys them as a high end gun shop. As I said in my post ... the rifles he had in his store are available at most any retailer ... at far lower prices.
