Hello all,

Here is my first post on these forums, although I read those since a while.

As you will notice, english is not my first language... so things, may sometimes, sound a bit weird... please keep that in mind...:)

So, here I am, ready to make the jump and buy my first handgun. I'm 36 and have my hunting card since I'm 16, but did not hunt much... and did not touch a gun for a looong period.

But recently, about a year ago and helped with a motivated buddy, I fell in love with shooting handguns. I did all my homeworks, accreditations club membership and I can now legally own a restricted weapon.

I intend to, first get to learn how to shoot right, second, get good at it and third start to shoot competitively. IDPA is calling... will probably also try IPSC.

I want an HK as my first handgun. Mainly because of the ambidextrous mag release. I've got short fingers...

Looking for a P30L probably or a P2000 if I cant wait...

Any suggestions a newbie can benefit?

Cohda

"...Sherbrooke, Qc..." I've been there. A very, very, long time ago, but my buddy's cousin was incredibly cute. Even when I sobered up. Her English was as poor as my French. It was just terrible. Snicker.
"...the ambidextrous mag release...short fingers..." Hi. An ambidextrous mag relase won't matter if the pistol doesn't fit your hand. Being able to easily reach the trigger with no stress on your hand is far more important. In any case, shoot bullseye first. Even though neither HK pistol is a target gun. You need to learn how to shoot accurately and safely before you go play either IPSC or IDPA. Bullseye shooting will do that. Sight picture, breathing and trigger control are essential for any kind of shooting.
However, do the IPSC/IDPA courses anyway.
Forget either the H&K P30L or the P2000 though. You can't have either of 'em. They're both prohibited. Barrel's too short. This should have been covered in your RPAL course.

Thanks for your advices. As I stated I want to first learn how to shoot, get good at it, THEN try some more competitive shooting.

FYI, the P30L (L stands for "Long slide") is a restricted handgun and the P2000 is available with a restricted lenght barrel.
