New to CGN and just getting into the sport of shooting clays.

Shopping for my first gun - looking into a O/U.

Any recommendations?

My budget is around (preferably below) $3000.

Churchil 206? Citori CX? Weatherbey Orion? Franchi Instinct L?

Your knowledge/experience/feed back would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the CGN from southern Ontario.
Don't overlook the better Turkish guns Catma, Canuck, Huglu. There good a choice in MHO and will leave room in your budget for more shells to practice with.

What ever you choose share it, always interesting to see what guys pick and why.

Have fun with the clay shooting sports there awesome.
Any one in particular your wanting to try?

Since I’m just starting out, I am taking lessons from an instructor on all disciplines to see what I like and to learn proper techniques.

To be honest, I’m a little overwhelmed (like a kid in a candy store) with all my options as far as choosing my first shottie.

Well just remember to have fun and guns are like potato chips you can't have just one. Lol
That's good you are getting help right off the bat bad habits are hard to break and you don't break clays 😉

A lot of shooters have had pretty good luck with the Turkish shoguns but frankly I've seen enough problems with them to recommend staying away from them in general and will recommend tried and true shotguns like Browning and Beretta. You can get into used ones for $3k and often less and they will hold their value much better than any Turkish gun.
Good semi auto guns can be found for less money than most good over and under shotguns and should be a consideration.

Before making a purchase I would recommend shooting as many different guns as you can to get a feel for fit and handling. Most shooters will be willing to let you try out their guns if you show respect and knowledge of gun safety and handling. In order words, don't get a reputation for bashing a gun into every fence post you walk by or pointing it in the wrong direction and don't assume that everyone you talk to will want to lend you their favorite gun.

Talk to other shooters and gain as much knowledge as you can before purchasing.

Fit is super important, try at least holding as many as you can. Try to find 30 inch barrels, 32 if you can, longer barrels can help with sightlines.

Echoing to consider a semi-auto, provided they don't get ~banned~. Will save you good bucks, plenty on the used market, and then you can go 26/28 inch barrel no problem as you have the action added length.

When considering different brands, also bear in mind any potential future issues and if warranty/repair work/parts will be available. Browning and Beretta are both great bets as there will always be parts available and smiths who have worked on them before.
