Newbie help with a Stevens O/U 555

Actually that is not right mine can dry fire as can my mates.

Interesting; mine when I break it open and close it even with the safety off the trigger has no pull weight - it's loose. If I throw a snap in the gun the trigger works fine. Strange. I suspected the gun had a mechanism to engage the trigger only when a round was present (similar to how the ejectors only work when the round was fired).

Ugh!!

Something wrong there. The gun cocks one or both hammers when you open the gun. Are you sure you are opening the gun fully?

Ugh - total apologies guys. Took it out again the morning and long story short - I wasn't pulling the trigger hard enough. :(

Foolish mistake - so sorry. With the safety on the trigger is very loose; with it off it feels the same to a certain point where it engages.

The firing pins still look ok. Here's a couple quick pictures with the plate off:

You're right - please see my post above...my foolish mistake.

Question for you since you own one - do you dry fire it before you store it? I guess up to this point I've left mine cocked in the cabinet.

You are missing a screw in the middle. That could be an issue. I make sure that all my guns and shotguns are de-cocked and have no tension.
