Folks, neighbour has me interested in trying the clays this year. Do you typically buy and bring your own clays or does the club make you buy from them? How’s this work? Was thinking about driving to Lawry’s in Caledonia and buying some if I am to bring my own. Thx in advance for the newb Q.

If you going to a clay range you pay usually per round 25 for trap, skeet and 5 stand, I believe sporting clays is the same. They will provide the clay targets and some clubs you can buy ammo if needed.
Usually you pay per round and if you a guest you might have to pay a guest fee. If you neighbor is a member of the club he probably know about guess fees.
Also check shot size regulations at the club you going too, where i shoot skeet it's #9's on the skeet field and 7 1/2 -8's on the trap fields.
Once you get it all fiqured out have fun it's a great sport no matter what discipline you shoot.

Ty. I will ask him re: his club. Appreciate the feedback.

Clubs provide the clays, and usually for less than what you can buy them for, because clubs buy pallets at a time, rather than boxes. As was previously posted, you need to buy appropriate ammunition, and pay close attention to the club rules, most of which exist for everyone's safety.

Thx all. Neighbour indicated he has a card that he recharges to pay for clays. I also just picked up the appropriate ammo from Tenda. No shipping on the cases (on sale anyway). Going to tour Lawry and check that out though.

Even if you end up paying more per clay at the range, I can’t see them being willing to accommodate someone who has brought their own targets. They won’t complicate their operations and allow your targets in there, and especially since they don’t know if your targets are any good (such as those that might have been dropped and would probably end up breaking in the thrower).

About the only time you can use your own targets would not be on their Trap/Sporting Clays field, but maybe if they have a manual thrower available (on the side) for manual ‘practice’.

Some clubs also restrict what gun you can use. My club has a barrel length restriction, has to be at least 24", or maybe its 26", I don't remember off the top of my head, but 18-20" are definitely not allowed.

If your going to Lawrys Stock up on some flats of shells. Better prices than Tenda BTW. If your buddy is a member at Hamilton. The guest prices for targets are a little more than member targets,. They will issue you a guest card with targets loaded on it.

I run a skeet field, no targets other than what we purchase from our supplier, ever go into our machines.

You'll also need decent ear and eye protection. Additionally, you dont mention what clay games are being proposed, be aware that different chokes are needed. Take all your chokes and a choke wrench.

Thx Cosmic I am a shooter just not clays. Got the gear. Looking at picking up some Briley extended when in Austin soon. Have the chokes that came with my A300 as well. Appreciate the call out though.
