I know that the 5.56 casing and a .223 casing are not the same, and shouldn't be used as if they were interchangable. Having said that, I'm a total newbie to the whole reloading business and I'm just wondering if a person could resize a 5.56 casing with a .223 die and have a useable .223 casing, or are the differences too great? Thanks!

Yes, you can. Check the trim lenght. Also, 5.56 will have a smaller internal capacity, which is an issue if you're using max loads - so work up and know what you're looking for.

Thanks, thats excellent news. The smaller internal capacity isn't an issue for me as I'm trying to reduce the cost of my rounds rather then increase velocity so the loads will be fairly light. Any more advice or comments?

I was told to start at a very small portion below the minimum recommended in the manual. For example, I was able to do a single .303 reload just to get an idea of how it works and I used 33 grains of IMR3031 when the manual said the minimum was 35 grains (I think). So would reducing it by a very small amount be alright?
